Altitude & Acclimatization
This trek reaches elevations above 3,300 m, where even fit hikers can feel the effects of altitude. The itinerary is designed with gradual acclimatization, giving your body time to adjust as you progress through villages, high pastures, and volcanic ridges.
Participants should be aware of common altitude symptoms such as headaches, fatigue, shortness of breath, or nausea. Our experienced guides monitor the group closely and adjust the pace or route as needed to ensure safety and comfort.
A flexible mindset, honest communication, and careful attention to your body are essential for a safe and enjoyable trek.
Accommodation Style
Village Guesthouses: Basic but welcoming, usually family-run. Shared rooms with mattresses and blankets, and communal dining spaces. Comfort is simple and authentic, offering a true local experience.
Bivouac Camping: Nights are spent in tents set up by the support team in high pastures and volcanic landscapes. Tents are typically shared (2 people per tent), and sleeping mats are provided. Participants should bring a warm sleeping bag suitable for cold nights at altitude.

Mule Support: Your main luggage is transported daily by mules, so you trek light with just a daypack.

Trip Itinerary

Arrive in Marrakech and meet your guide. You’ll be transferred to your riad or hotel for the night. Dinner is on your own this evening.

Drive to the southern side of the Atlas to reach the village of Tamlakout (1,650 m). Meet your muleteers and enjoy an afternoon walk around the village, getting a first taste of Berber culture.

After loading the mules, begin trekking across desert plateaus toward the Sirwa massif. Camp for the night opposite the village of Aït Tigga (1,950 m).
• Trekking: ~5 h (mixed terrain)

Explore the old Agadir (fortified granary) near Aït Tigga, then continue through Idoughagh and Aït Ighmour. Cross the Tachancht pass (2,500 m) and walk through high pasturelands as you approach higher altitude camps.

Set out early for the ascent of Jebel Sirwa, with the final section involving a short, secure scramble. Enjoy the views from the summit before descending to Irhiri pastures (2,300 m) for camp.
• Trekking: ~6.5 h (800 m up, 1,000 m down)

Follow a ridge trail past Tazoult and cross the Assif Irhiri river. Continue along easy crest paths to Tamazikht and return to Tamlakout, where you reunite with your host from Day 2.

After breakfast, transfer by minibus back to Marrakech. Arrival is typically in the afternoon.
